Dodge is known for two things, giving cars mean names and designing them to look and perform meaner. If you want a car that impresses with looks and performance, Dodge is the company that will fulfill your needs, and Demon is the vehicle you should be after! And since you’re at it, why not go for the fastest Demon (yes, the Speedkore one)!

In case you have to sell your current car to afford this beast of a vehicle, you need to check out this post to find out the best time to trade in a car – tips by Gettacar.com. Hopefully, these tips will help you get a better deal for your vehicle so you can manage the price difference!

Now, without further ado, let’s dive into the tech that makes the Speedkore Demon a formidable rival for anyone warming up their rubber at the start of a drag strip.

A Little Bit of History

The Demon is a variant of Dodge’s Challenger lineup. The latest (third) generation Challenger was released back in 2008. Dodge kept updating the car to keep it relevant, but the major upgrade came in 2015 when they released the Hellcat – a 707hp street-legal race car.

However, these people didn’t settle for that and released the Demon in 2018. A supercharged 840hp car that can do a wheelie straight out of the showroom (in theory at least), it was the fastest non-electric car to go to 60mph from a standstill and the fastest production car on the quarter-mile drag strip.

Then, some people at Speedkore, a company known for making top-performing cars even better performers, did their magic. They reduced the 0-60 time of the car from 10 seconds to 8 seconds. Now, if you are not familiar with the drag racing scene, a quarter-mile in 8 seconds is quite a thing to achieve.

How did they do that? That’s what we’re gonna find out!

A Simple Recipe

No matter what car it is, if you do two things, you can make it faster. These two things are:

–        Reduce the weight

–        Increase the power

That seems simple, but when you have a car that already has an 840hp engine and weighs fairly low for its size, that target becomes a big challenge. So, here’s how the people at Speedkore did that.

Reducing the Weight

In the process of making the fastest Demon, the team at Speedkore removed 600lbs from the car. That is like 20% the weight of a stock demon. How did they do that? Well, CARBON FIBER!

Not just any carbon fiber, though. There are a bunch of different qualities of carbon fiber body panels that can be used for cars, but the ones we’re referring to here are wet and pre-impregnated carbon fiber.

Wet carbon fiber is the cheaper but heavier option. It is made by coating a layer of resin over a carbon fiber panel and then baking it in an oven. The trouble with this approach is that you end up applying more resin than needed. That extra resin is extra weight, and when you are making a car lighter, you do not want the extra weight.

Pre-impregnated carbon fiber body panels are made by coating each individual strand of carbon fiber with a resin and then weaving them to make the body panel. The body panel is then baked in an oven to make it stiff. This approach decreases the amount of resin that is used in the process, so the panels weigh less.

The other thing that Speedkore did was to obtain the CAD drawings for the car from Dodge. It made it possible for them to make body panels that look exactly like the stock demon.

The whole car is the exact same shape as the stock one, except the bumpers and the reason for that lies in the next step of the process – increasing the power.

Increasing Engine Power

The stock Demon has a Supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 that puts out 840hp, but that was not enough for the Speedkore team. They bumped it up. How much? 1500hp at the wheels and 1800 at the crank.

Now, even if you do not know a lot about engines, you can understand that increasing the power output of an engine by 78% is not an easy thing. So how did they accomplish that?

When you need to increase the power produced by an internal combustion engine, it boils down to two things:

–        Add more air, and

–        Burn more fuel

Speedkore approached this problem with two things. They swapped the supercharger for a twin-turbo system and replaced the fuel injection system with dual injectors.

Swapping the Supercharger for Twin Turbos

The stock engine comes with a supercharger to increase the amount of air entering the engine, but superchargers have a major drawback. They run off a pulley from the engine and hence consume power. A supercharger, on average, consumes about 20% of the power output of an engine. However, the use is justified because it adds up to 50% power.

Turbos, on the other hand, run on the exhaust gas being pumped out by the engine. This does not cause any extra load on the engine and still adds more air. That’s why Speedkore exchanged the supercharger for two billet aluminum turbochargers.

Those turbos are mounted in the bumper of the Speedkore damage, hence the bumper is the only part that does not look like the one on the stock car.

Installing Dual Fuel Injection System

All that extra air going into the engine is meaningless if you do not have more fuel. Speedkore went for a dual fuel injection system to make sure that all the oxygen the car inhales can be consumed with fuel and converted into useful power to accelerate the car.

Dodge Did a Wonderful Job

One thing needs to be made clear here. If you increase the air and fuel entering an engine to make more power, that increases the magnitude of the forces the internals of the engine are exposed to.

Consequently, you can’t expect to just increase boost pressure and get an extra 78% power from the motor. You need to swap the internals like the crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons with beefier, stronger ones.

However, Dodge did such a wonderful job designing and manufacturing this engine that it can crank out all the extra power without needing new internals. We have to give them credit for that.

To Sum Up

No matter what car you have, if you want to make it faster, just reduce its weight and increase the power. You can do that by removing parts of the car or replacing them with ones that are lighter. To increase the power, add more air and fuel to the engine.

But why take all the trouble when Speedkore can do it for you the right way! Just sell off your car, add a lot (a lot LOT) of bucks, and get a Speedkore version to enjoy the fastest Demon in the world!
