STOW, OHIO – Jan. 23, 2019: Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels is back for another year of exciting motorcycle drag racing.
The popular Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Drag Racing Series will be featured at 10 events during the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series calendar.
“The Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Top Fuel Harley motorcycle category has quickly become one of the most exciting of the NHRA series,” said NHRA vice president and chief development officer Brad Gerber. “Top Fuel Harley thrilled fans at events in 2018, and we look forward to another electrifying season.”
The Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Top Fuel Harley series features bikes capable of exceeding 220 mph, making it the fastest motorcycle racing action on the circuit. Races are often decided by thousandths of a second.
Mirroring last year’s schedule, the 2019 Top Fuel Harley season will begin at the historic Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, Feb. 7-10, and conclude at the Lucas Oil Raceway with the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, Aug. 28 – Sept. 2.
This year, however, the category will compete at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, Aug. 16-19, in Brainerd, Minn. which features “some of the most passionate fans in the country at a scenic facility that is known for producing record speeds,” according to the NHRA. The Brainerd stop for the Top Fuel Harley series will replace last year’s race at the DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas.
The 2019 season marks the third year Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels has served as the title sponsor of the Top Fuel Harley series.
“We’ve produced drag motorcycle tires for more than 20 years and are proud to continue our partnership with the NHRA and support the riders, teams and fans who have helped make the Top Fuel Harley series such a success,” said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing at Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels.
Last year, Tii Tharpe claimed the Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Drag Racing Series championship when he defeated Doug Vancil in dramatic fashion after the two entered the finale separated by less than a round’s worth of points.
