Congratulations to Robbie Langford and his 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle for pulling out this year’s RPM MAG TOP GUN SHOOTOUT win! It was a close race, but Robbie edged out Greg Dudash’s C10, 2012 to 1972 votes.
“Considering how over-the-top and outrageous some of this year’s participants were, it is no stretch to say this small-tire, stock-hooded Chevy was an underdog,” said RPM’s Toby Brooks. “But the fact that it can run 7s with a single 4-barrel and look so good doing it, makes it more than a worthy recipient. Congrats Robbie!
“I’ll be honest. Among all of the entries, and in complete disagreement with our own Toby Brooks, I was thinking it would be a car (or truck) with some solid track numbers behind it, sorry Toby!” Exclaimed RPM Editor In Chief Chris
Biro when asked about his gut feelings going into the inaugural event.
“But which one?” Continued Biro. “I honestly thought it was going to be Stanley’s Caddy, the UK based Bentley or maybe even Ricky’s truck. There were also the Fairlane or Cyclone, maybe Charles Leake’s incredible black Chevy II, Ray Tumbry’s Nova or Ron Bookman’s Mopar…which was a huge favorite especially in talking with voters (and since he recently proved its capabilities by laying down easy LOW 8-second quarter-mile runs on his first time out). Then there’s Tim Knieriem’s small tire small block Mustang, Shawn Dixon’s 1962 Pontiac Tempest and Tim Harper’s ProCharged ’55 which were a few more of my personal favorites. I guess that’s why I don’t choose an Editor’s pick- not only do I feel that would be biased and unfair, but I simply couldn’t choose just one as to me personally they are all worthy of RPM Top Gun cred.”
“The two finalists were definitely deserving,” he added. “They came from behind during a few of their respective match-ups and not only shocked their opponents, but many fans as well, causing some controversy among voters and some careful numbers watching on our end as well.”
“My personal congratulations to Robbie Langford, his driver Randy Perkinson and all those involved in his build. Also, congrats to ALL the those chosen to participate in the Shootout and of course our Top 8 TOP GUNS for 2014!”
“All in all, this was a blast and we’ve got some slick new ideas for our 2015 Top Gun Shootout, so stay tuned…because at RPM, we don’t exist on the edge…we ARE the edge!”
