Reports are that the United Auto Workers union said it would expand its strike tomorrow (Friday) if there is no immediate and major progress in its negotiations with the big three carmakers in the U.S.
The UAW officials indicated they would select new strike targets at 10 a.m. Friday. That means workers in these new sites would walk off the job at Noon on Friday.
Last week, the UAW broadened the strike beyond 3 manufacturing plants and now includes 38 parts-distribution centers which are owned by GM and Stellantis.
All tolled, according to AP, roughly 10% of the country’s unionized auto workers, and even more workers at those parts facilities – all members of the United Auto Workers union (UAW) – are now on strike.
Their issues? Wages and other compensation, along with job security.
Needless to say, if these strikes drag on, or if they expand as it appears they may, this will put a crunch on the automotive supply chain.
