WAR has been waged once again at Thompson Raceway Park in Ohio after the wildly successful inaugural RPM Magazine/Lucas Oil Products WAR By The SHORE event last summer, and the Harland Sharp REAL STREET SHOWDOWN class presented by FireCore Performance Products & Big 3 Racing is BACK, and filling up fast for this year’s WAR!
The initial WAR By The Shore “test” event July 2015 combined the efforts of Renegade Racing Association’s Kristal Cowle and RPM Magazine senior staff to develop a completely new concept in a racer, sponsor and fan friendly event.
“We took what everybody else was doing in independent doorslammer drag race events today and pretty much threw it out the window, well sort of anyway,” says RPM Editor In Chief, Chris Biro. “Instead, we simply looked back to the roots of street car drags- those days that everybody refers to as ‘back in the day’- and knew that there must have been something pretty special back then to instill such fond memories in us all. It’s about getting back to basics and making an event more about racer involvement and having some good ole fashioned fun.”
Armed with that knowledge and the energy to bring something new to market, the WAR By The SHORE team developed a fast paced, single day doorslammer drag race event with all the trimmings- Heads-up classes, Index classes, Nostalgia shootouts, Exhibition cars, Brackets, and even created their own innovative Real Street Showdown class as one of the event headliners.
“The big buzz of the event was definitely the Real Street Showdown class,” continued Biro. “This class is not so much about 4 pages of rules, tires sizes or suspension types as much as it is about real street cars- cars that still look like street machines, run on street legal tires, are tagged and insured and can still be street driven. Further, we wanted to have an entry system in the class that involved the racers through an application, from which we would choose a 32 car lineup to battle it out for a 16-car field, and an eventual champion. The excitement around this class is explosive!”
“We proved the formula worked with last years event,”said Event Director Kristal Cowle. “The WBTS volunteer staff was second to none, the racers and fans had a blast and Thompson Raceway Park kicked ass with record setting track prep and hard work to give us a great event from end to end. So let’s do it all again!”
