Performance Distributors’ new “Instant Timing Knob” Racing D.U.I. is a real technological breakthrough! You can now actually change your timing with the simple turn of the Instant Timing Knob. You don’t have to loosen and re-tighten your distributor hold-down clamp. Simply turn the knob to advance or retard your timing. ½ Revolution equals one degree of timing and one full revolution equals two degrees of timing.
No timing light required. You can avoid those wicked hand burns that occur so often when rotating a distributor in a hot race engine. In addition to the accuracy of the Instant Timing Knob, each D.U.I. distributor’s mechanical advance is calibrated on a distributor machine throughout the entire rpm range. The ITK helps you fine tune your engine. For example, if you change cams or pistons, you can simply rotate the Instant Timing Knob D.U.I. to compensate for the difference.
Magnetic pick-up coil power is insured by aligning the teeth on the pick-up
to the teeth on the shaft reluctor to very exact tolerances. An additional step that also insures maximum magnetic pick-up coil power is the hand setting of the end-play between the distributor gear and the distributor housing. Proper lubrication of the D.U.I. distributor, along with test firing of the electronic components, provides you with not only an excellent performing ignition system, but also with a very reliable one.
The Chevy application comes complete with the 50,000 Volt D.U.I. Coil, which is located in the cap. The high output Dyna-Module, which has more electronic dwell time, is also inside the distributor. Because the D.U.I. produces a longer duration spark, you can open up your plug gaps to .055”, burning your fuel more completely.
