LIMITED STREET CLASS BULLETIN

Regarding “DOT” Tire Sizing

July 3rd & 4th RPM BASH Event

For Immediate Release June 17, 2009

Class rules for the BASH event were created approximately 10 months ago, in light of certain recent developments between Drag Radial and Limited Street rules within the industry we felt it necessary to clarify a potential grey area within the BASH Limited Street rules regarding Tire Sizes.

Tire Designation within the Limited Street class Rules for the July 3rd & 4th BASH event states:

"Tires: Any slick up to a 30 x 10.5" sidewall designation allowed. "W" tires are not permitted. DOT tires up to a 12.50" sidewall (or equivalent) designation are permitted."

Since the BASH rules state a 12.50 inch sidewall designation for a "DOT tire" and no specific mm designation for a DOT Radial tire, which by definition in this rule is still a "DOT Tire" and would be permitted in the class, we will clarify this using industry accepted and published tire sizing specifications which also list equivalents between the two types of tires. This will hopefully prevent any type of raceday misunderstandings with the class rules regarding tires.

In direct contact with the tire manufacturer as well as consulting these written materials we have determined the following:

The 30x12.5-15LT ET Street has a 13.3" Sidewall Width and 10.2" Tread Width as measured on a 10" rim (Diameter is 30")

The P295/65R15 DOT Radial has an 11.9" (smaller) Sidewall Width and 10.9" (larger) Tread Width as measured on a smaller 8.5" rim. (diameter is 30")

As written in tire sizing documents and confirmed by the tire manufacturer these two tires are considered "as close as possible to one another" and actually listed as "equivalent" in the published sizing charts. Given this, the maximum DOT Radial tire designation permitted in the Limited Street class would be 295.

For comparison - The P315/60R15 DOT Radial is listed as the following: 12.9" Sidewall Width, 11.9" Tread Width as measured on a 9.5" rim. (Diameter is 30") and lists the 30x13.5-15LT as its "equivalent" within the same published sizing chart.

With the event so close and different tires being involved we feel this is the only fair way to determine what will be permitted in the Limited Street class as a DOT tire and prevent any type of confusion if the situation arises. There are lots of variables depending on the width of rim that the tire is mounted on, but these would apply to both types of tires and please understand that we are attempting to serve only this single event and prevent a potential misunderstanding for this event only.

The BASH hosted a separate Drag Radial and Limited Street class to meet the overall environment when the rules for the event were created and work to please both groups of racers. We encourage ingenuity among racers, advancements in performance and welcome racers to run in the class that they choose provided they fit within the rules of that class.

EMERALD COAST DRAGWAY ANNOUNCES PURSE INCREASE, A NEW CLASS FOR RPM BIRTHDAY EVENT AND MORE!

For Immediate Release April 15, 2009

"We paid a recent visit to Emerald Coast Dragway and were greeted with far more than just open arms!", exclaims RPM Magazine Editor In Chief, Chris Biro.  "These folks are top notch and they are so excited about the RPM Magazine Birthday Bash Event presented by Lucas Oil Products (July 3rd & 4th, 2009) being held at their facility that they wanted everyone to know just how excited."

"I can't tell you how great we feel about this event," commented Richard Stephens, Owner of Emerald Coast.  "We purchased the facility just last year and have been making all these changes and upgrades, this event coming here is a big shot in the arm to let everyone know we have a great place to race, and a great place to come watch racing." Kelly Stephens (facility Co-owner and Richard's wife) jumped in; " In fact, we are so excited we would like to formally announce an increase in the Winners purse in our Pro Modified class to $5,000!  On top of that we want to offer a $1,000 cash bonus to ANY Pro Modified Team who beats our current track Record in the class!"

The current Pro Modified record for the eighth-mile facility, located just a short jaunt from the sugar-white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast, is held by none other than Florida's own Mike Neal who stopped the clocks with a stout 3.940 ET. Think YOU got what it takes?  Come out and be part of the fun as that is what the RPM Magazine Birthday Bash Event is all about... It's A Celebration Of Drag Racing!

"This place (Emerald Coast Dragway) was spotless, and run like a well oiled machine," Biro continued. "We had a chance to meet not just the people involved with the facility ownership and operations but a very diverse group of racers right from Pro Modified and Pro Stock to Street Machines and Bracket Racers, all saying that the Stephens' 'look after them like nothing they have experienced before'.  As a racer you need to come out and enjoy a little less stress, a little less pressure and a lot more enjoyment in an event. As a fan you just need to come out and enjoy the good times!  Come share the in the Emerald Coast Dragway experience to celebrate Independence Day and the 10th Anniversary Of fast doorslammer Drag Racing's top-rated magazine.  We've got a whole lot more than just Drag Racing planned for THE RPM BASH, July 3 & 4th, and we hope to see you there."
